Brighton’s Queen’s Park recently witnessed an extraordinary clean-up effort led by the dedicated team from Coastway Vets. Armed with wellies, waders, and rubber gloves, 14 enthusiastic members, including vets, nurses, and receptionists, embarked on a mission to rejuvenate the park’s pond. Their efforts unearthed an array of surprising items, from bicycles and scooters to footballs and washing lines, all of which were removed to restore the pond’s natural beauty.
This initiative, held on 22nd March, is part of Coastway Vets’ ongoing commitment to community service and environmental stewardship. As a longstanding fixture in Brighton’s pet care scene, Coastway Vets has been serving local pets and their owners for over fifty years. Their dedication extends beyond veterinary care, as they actively engage in community events and environmental projects.
The clean-up, inspired and coordinated by veterinary nurse Jay Lisher, also involved the removal of invasive duckweed and the cleaning of protective plant cages. This work is crucial for maintaining the pond’s ecological balance, benefiting the ducks, geese, and other wildlife that call it home. The park rangers were delighted with the progress made in just four hours, highlighting the positive impact of the team’s efforts.
Coastway Vets’ collaboration with the Friends of Queen’s Park and park ranger Lyndsay Cattanach underscores their commitment to preserving this cherished community space. The practice has also donated 12 nesting boxes to encourage diverse birdlife in the park, further enhancing the local ecosystem.
In addition to their environmental initiatives, Coastway Vets supports various local charities and events, including the upcoming Bark in the Park dog show. Their 24-hour veterinary hospital in Kemptown, along with branch surgeries in surrounding areas, ensures top-notch care for pets across Brighton.
